BYD's plan to control ocean shipping

BYD is a Chinese electric car company that built its own ships. They have seven big ships that carry cars to other countries. The biggest ship can carry over 9,000 cars.

BYD started making ships because shipping prices became very high after COVID. Other car companies usually rent space on ships, but BYD decided to build their own fleet. Their ships take cars to Europe and Brazil.

In Brazil, they sold 2,500 cars in early 2023 but over 56,000 cars in 2024. In Europe, their sales grew 300% and they even sold more cars than Tesla in April. Each ship costs about 100-130 million dollars to build.
