Syria-Israel talks in Paris about Iran and Hezbollah

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer met in Paris this week. The United States helped organize the meeting. They discussed how to stop Hezbollah and Iranian forces from coming to southern Syria.

Israel wants only Syrian security forces in the border area, without heavy weapons. This was the first time Syria officially participated in direct talks with Israel. The meeting happened after recent political changes in Syria in December.

They also talked about the 1974 ceasefire agreement and UN peacekeeping forces. Some people think this could be part of Israel's bigger plans in the region. The talks show that both countries want to solve security problems, but there are still many difficulties.
