Actress Fights for Equal Pay on Popular TV Show

Nina Dobrev starred in The Vampire Diaries TV series. She played two characters, Elena and Katherine, but received lower pay than her male co-stars Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder. Even though she worked twice as hard, learning more lines and spending more time filming, she earned less money.

When she asked for fair payment for playing Katherine, the studio told writers to stop using that character. This made Nina feel unvalued and less important than the men. She left after six seasons because of this unfair treatment.

When they asked her to return for the final season, they offered very low pay. She refused until they paid her fairly. Nina says this was about respect and equality, not just money.
