Costco recalls Kirkland Signature poke due to listeria contamination risk

Costco has recalled over 3,300 pounds of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke because of possible listeria contamination in the green onions. The recall happened after the green onion supplier tested positive for listeria on September 17.

Listeria can cause serious infections that may be fatal, especially for children, elderly people, and those with weak immune systems. It can also cause pregnancy problems. The recalled product was sold in clear plastic containers on September 18 in 33 states.

Although no illnesses have been reported yet, customers should not eat the product and should dispose of it immediately. They can get a full refund at Costco.

This recall shows how serious foodborne illnesses can be, as listeria is the third leading cause of death from food poisoning in the US.
