Man sentenced to life prison for double murder at bar

Thomas Routt, 58, was sentenced to life in prison for shooting two people at Sports Page Bar in Elkhorn. On February 1, 2024, he went into the bar and talked to Gina Weingart, who was working there. Her husband Emerson was also there with another woman.

Routt told police that Gina threatened to call police about his gun. He said when she hit his gun, it went off and shot her by accident. But then he shot Emerson on purpose and tried to shoot the other woman when she ran away.

After the shooting, he threw his gun in a dumpster at a gas station. Police arrested him three days later. In June, a jury found him guilty of many crimes including two murders.

He was not allowed to have guns because of his criminal past. He got life in prison without parole.
