Caribbean Attacks: US Admiral Resigns Unexpectedly

Admiral Alvin Holsey resigned from his position leading US Southern Command. This happened after several military attacks on boats near Venezuela that were suspected of drug smuggling. Six people died in the latest attack.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was unhappy with Holsey's approach to fighting drug traffickers. He thought Holsey was too careful and slow. There were disagreements about whether these military operations were legal.

The two men had problems for weeks before Holsey offered to resign during a Pentagon meeting. The Admiral will retire at the end of the year instead of leaving immediately.
